Rare to cultivation, this excellent Knifophia species is often found in the wild in South African growing at the sides of streams, high in the mountains. It bears a distinctive rossette of evergreen leathery leaves, quite different to the softer, more fleshy leaves of other forms of Red Hot Pokers. The flowers usually tend to come quite early, from May onwards although they can really appear at any time from May til August depending upon the planting position. The heads of cream, soft yellow and orange flowers can become quite large on mature plants - the flowers are usually held only just above the leaves. Position in a sunny place, in well-drained soil and prepare to be amazed! A good year-round plant.
Kniphofia are of South African origin.
